Architect-designed cabins high above the Lysefjord, just over half an hour from Stavanger. We stayed a whole weekend and could happily have stayed longer.
We spent a whole weekend in a StarLodge at The Bolder, high above the Lysefjord, and it was a weekend we'll never forget. The cabin has huge windows looking straight out over the fjord, and in many ways the view became the whole programme. We cooked together, read books, put on music and did very little except relax and soak up the calm. Now and then we went for a walk in the surrounding area before retreating inside again to watch the light change over the fjord. We rarely switch off this well.
The Bolder sits by the Lysefjord in Ryfylke, around 40 minutes' drive from central Stavanger and not far from Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock). There are three cabin types: the StarLodge for two, the cedar-clad SkyLodge standing on a single pillar, and the spacious GrandLodge. Several of the cabins were designed by Snøhetta. All have their own Vipp kitchen, so bring good ingredients and cook dinner with a view. Breakfast can be pre-ordered. On Saturday we drove into Stavanger and had dinner at Matbaren Bistro. It was the perfect match for a weekend out here.
