At Woodnest, you are embraced by the forest and become one with nature.
A timber bridge leads you through the pine forest and into a treehouse hanging six meters above the ground, fastened around a living pine tree with a steel collar that allows the tree to continue growing. Woodnest was designed by Helen & Hard Architects, and the BBC has named it one of the world's best forest homes. Four cabins in total, each just 15 square meters, yet equipped with a shower, toilet, kitchenette, and beds you actually sleep well in. The Mountaintop cabins feature hand-carved wooden bathtubs and a bed that lowers from the ceiling at the push of a button. Below you lies the Sørfjorden and Hardanger; above you, the pines whisper.

The hike up takes twenty to forty-five minutes and is steep, so pack light and wear good shoes. There is no food service, but the kitchenette has an induction cooktop and refrigerator. Pick up local produce from Odda town center, or pre-order a welcome package. A minimum stay of two nights is required on weekends. Book early — the cabins are often fully booked.
