If you’re driving the Haukeli route, make a stop here.
You can smell the wood-fired oven and freshly baked pastries before you see the sign. Mjonøy Bakeri in Vinje is set in a cluster of old timber buildings along the E134, and the bakery itself is housed in Kringlegarden – a log cabin with a door so low you have to duck to get in. Inside, cinnamon buns, sourdough bread and almond stars are arranged around the warm stone oven. Everything is baked by hand, without additives – just flour, sourdough, salt and time.

You help yourself and pay with Vipps on your way out. In summer, the café serves homemade burgers with pickled red onion, and the rivers Klevasøylåi and Smørklepåi trickle past the outdoor seating. If you’re driving the Haukeli road, make this your stop – and take a sourdough loaf with you for the rest of the drive.
