Mandelhuset is a hidden gem we keep coming back to.
Three white wooden houses with green trim on the old steamship pier in Våge. Mandelhuset was a general store from 1923, and the history lives in the walls. Today, Patrick and chef Linn Mari run the kitchen, with a menu that changes four times a year and always builds on local ingredients. The halibut is juicy and beautifully prepared, and the burger is hearty with real flavour. After the pandemic, 145 new owners came on board, and Mandelhuset became a true community restaurant run by people who want the island to thrive.
Sit outside on the pier with views over Våge harbour, or inside the old building where the atmosphere is unpretentious and warm. The bar has been upgraded to something approaching a proper cocktail bar. Tysnes is just an hour from Bergen, and Mandelhuset is perfect to combine with a drive around the island. If you arrive by sea, you can moor right outside the door. Check their website for opening hours, as they vary with the season.
Opening hours may vary, especially during holidays and seasonal changes. We recommend checking the venue's own website for updated hours.
