After a long hike down the Dronningstien trail, the scent of freshly baked bread reaches you already in the centre of Lofthus. Fløy bakeri sits a stone's throw from the Hardangerfjord and bakes everything on site using pure, quality ingredients. Here, tradition and innovation meet at the counter: potato flatbreads, nordlandslefser and krotakaker sit side by side with fluffy buns, focaccia and fine pastries.

The carrot bread is moist and nutty, and the buns vanish quickly from the tray. Try a sandwich with strawberries and brie on seed bread if it's on the menu. The bakery also offers allergy-friendly options for those who need them. Open from May to September — outside the season, follow their Instagram for updates. A perfect pit stop before or after your mountain hike.
