Extremely high level food! Be prepared for a matching price level too :)
An old barn in the Buer valley, twenty minutes from Odda, with a view straight towards the Buarbreen glacier. The fireplace is burning, the place is packed, and from the kitchen come dishes built on ingredients from the fjord, the mountains, and the pastures just outside the door. Head chef Erlend Stueland came here after years at the Michelin restaurant Bare in Bergen, and the level shows in every plate. The menu changes with the seasons, and each dish is presented with a calm and pride that elevates the meal far beyond what you'd expect to find at the end of a Hardanger valley.

The farm of Bjørn and Elisabeth Buer is an experience in itself. Scottish Highland cattle graze on the farmyard, and beneath the restaurant the sheep are housed in the barn. If you're lucky, you can watch the lambing through a glass window in the floor. Consider combining your visit with a hike up to the Buarbreen glacier or Reinanuten. Book a table well in advance and ask for a window seat. The prices match the ambitions, but this is Hardanger at its absolute best.
