Banzha is a slang word from Yunnan meaning "fantastic".
Banzha means "fantastic" in slang from Yunnan, and that's exactly what Michelle Zhao and Christopher Haatuft have built on Neumanns gate. Michelle grew up in Yunnan, the province in southwest China bordering Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, and has brought the flavours of her childhood to Bergen. Christopher, known from the Michelin-starred restaurant Lysverket, helped shape the concept. The result is a kitchen that dares to challenge: fresh herbs, chili, citrus, and spice profiles that awaken your taste buds in a way you rarely experience in Bergen.

Order the sharing menu and fill the table with small dishes. The cucumber salad is fresh and addictive, the mint ribs surprisingly good, and the mala prawns deliver a numbing heat that lingers. The food is made for sharing, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The place has become a favourite among locals, though opinions are divided. Our experience? We had an absolute blast. Drop in without a reservation if you're feeling spontaneous, or book ahead to be safe.
